Lenticular printing can create some amazing effects, such as the illusion of motion, 3D depth, zooming effect, flip & something we call infinity; a great standout product for company business cards. All of these can make stunning and mesmerising effects sure to grab anyone's attention and stand out from the crowd.
How Lenticular Printing Works
Lenticular prints are made possible through a piece of clear plastic that has been extruded into a lens "see image" The lenses come in a very wide variety of definitions from 10 lenses per inch up to 161. The definition of the lens depends on the type of effect you want and the size and viewing distance of the product.
Once a lens type has been chosen, we have to measure the lens so that we are printing perfectly in line with the lens. This is no easy task when each lens can be as small as 0.16mm. We call this measuring process a pitch test.
With the results from our "pitch test", we create a merged single file from multiple images; we call this rendering process “interlacing”. Because this is in effect what you are doing interlacing multiple files into one file, this is where a great amount of skill and precision is needed.
Difficulties of Lenticular Printing for Business
When producing files for animation or 3D work, we could be using as many as 60 views which need to be printed perfectly in-line with each lens on the sheet. This can be very difficult to get correct and is why there are only very few printing companies in the world who can produce good quality lenticular printing work.
Another skilled part of lenticular production is the creation of the files for a 3D image effect. This is done by cutting and cloning parts of the image out and placing them in a 3D space. The experience and skill of our operators and some very specialist software help us to do this, but not all images will work.
Lenticular printing can make your business stand out from the rest of the competition. It offers a unique spin on some simple advertising and can capture the eyes of your audience.
